Planning family time –fathers
Wayne Parker of Your Guide to Fatherhood says that many fathers
struggle with putting important things first. He recommends that
fathers can create more quality and quantity time with their families by
first getting clear on personal values. He suggest fathers try the
simple exercise of writing their own obituary and, in doing so, itemize
what they want to be remembered for.
Think long term Identifying long range goals is a critical step many
fathers miss says Parker. Some long-term goals might include raising
children that are responsible, caring adults, or saving money to make a
significant down payment on a home within five years.
Keeping in mind your long-term goals, look at your week and determine
what steps you need to take to move each of these goals forward during
this week. List the steps and prioritorize them. If a time commitment is
required schedule a time. For example if your long-term goal is to raise
children that are responsible, caring adults, you may want to set aside
some time to show them how to wash or iron their clothes. Set a time and
keep your commitment.
