Benefits of play
Don’t let your child miss out on the benefits of play. Take a walk to
a savannah or in your own back yard. Lie or sit on the grass and listen
for animals or different kinds of vehicles. Go on a bug hunt in the
grass and bushes. Without touching, watch with your child to see how
insects move, what they do. See how many different creatures you can
identify.
Research, conducted on behalf of Unilever on children and play, asked
1500 mothers in _ countries about their children’s day- to-day
activities. Mothers agree that their children are being pressured to
grow up too fast. They are “increasingly being denied opportunities to
play, enjoy, and to learn from their own inclinations to be curious and
to explore.” (Singer and Singer)
