Underachieving in School

Is your child underachieving in school?

Some children get into bad habits with their homework because they become preoccupied with TV programs or video games. Some simply have never established good study skills. Other children who find schoolwork difficult would simply rather play. Parents can help these children cut back on other activities to reasonable amounts, provide a suitable environment for study, teach them how to focus on their work, and work with the teacher to grade the child's efforts on schoolwork and homework. Adoption of these tactics has resulted in improvements in performance.

Motivation for good grades eventually comes perhaps from an enjoyment in knowing things, from an ability to see studying as a pathway to a particular goal or future career; from setting reasonable goals and achieving them and from her own self-reproach when she falls short of her goals.
